Wonderland Wars is a 4 vs. 4 multiplayer online battle arena (or MOBA) released in Japanese arcades by Sega in 2015.
Plot[]
Legendary warriors are created by the "Divine Brush" in order to fight back against the forces of evil. Many of these heroes became legendary heroes in fairytales from these encounters. The first trailer pitches the events of Wonderland Wars as the "True" story of Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and the Monkey King amongst others.
Gameplay[]
The aim of the game is to destroy the enemy forces with co-operative play. On the battlefield NPC soldiers are spawned from castles, creating armies to slow one another down. Castles can only be destroyed by the NPC soldiers, so the player must aid their charge by defending them from enemy soldiers and other player characters.
The game is played with a single stick and a specially design pen peripheral that allows players to manipulate the environment around their character and perform special moves. These special moves will follow the lines drawn by the pen.
Characters are split into three categories:
- Fighters: Excelling in fighting a single row, with excellent draw shot performance. - Attackers: Have high attack power for straight shots and skills. As characters fight their way across the battlefield they'll level up growing more powerful as they go.
Player characters also have an "ink"(MP) gauge in the lower half which indicates how much the pen can be used to perform "Draw Shots"(Special moves) and the distance that can be drawn.
Characters[]
- Cendrillion: A swordswoman who is known to be punctual. Formerly rejected by the Cinderella organization. a private mercenary group, she endured rigorous training in both magic and swordsplay. Recognised by the former captain of the Cinderllas, Victorious, she inherited the former leader's crystallised magic in sword form, and transformed into the White Knight who faces off against the Army of the Middle Ages.
Trivia[]
- Joker from Persona 5 guest stars in the game. He is the only guest character.
- Despite Wonderland Wars being a Japanese exclusive title, it's simplified mobile spinoff, League of Wonderland, made it to the west. The plot is changed somewhat, in that this is a place were fairytale characters are whisked to after their story ends to fight for glory.
- Sega hosted competitive tournaments for this game, with the last tournament taking place in 2019.
- Despite being a Japanese arcade cabinet, one of the games opening trailers contains an English speaking grandmother and grandaughter settling down for the night with the grandmother beginning to tell a fairytale to the little girl. As the characters from the book begin to come alive and change into the models, the english narration fades out and is replaced with Japanese.
