Virtua Racing (or V.R. for short) is an arcade game developed by Sega AM2 and published by Sega in August 1992. Directed by Yu Suzuki and designed by Toshihiro Nagoshi, the game was developed alongside the Model 1 arcade board and considered a milestone for laying the foundations for most modern racing games and popularizing 3D polygon graphics. Originally an arcade game, it was later ported for home consoles such as the Mega Drive/Genesis (with the Sega Virtua Processor chip on the cartridge) in 1994, Sega 32X and Sega Saturn.

Gameplay[]

Virtua Racing is a 3D racing game, where players drive Formula One-esque cars around one of the three tracks against fifteen computer-controlled cars under the time limit (or three/seven players, depending on machine setup), with checkpoints dotted around the track to extend play.
