Virtua Cop 2 is a light gun rail shooter game developed by Sega and released in arcade in 1995 and the Sega Saturn in 1996.
Plot[]
Having shut down the criminal organisation known as E.V.I.L. Inc, Michael "Rage" Hardy and James "Smarty" Cools have managed to put three of the organisation's leaders behind bars in a maximum security federal pen. The last member of the top four, Joe Fang, was believed to have died in a helicopter crash although the body was never found.
A comprehensive investigation has gone into E.V.I.L. Inc's black market and gun-running activities and Virtua City Bank has come under suspicion of involvement of a massive money laundering operation. The bank vice-president has met with an untimely "accidental" death, and a database showing periodic transfers between the bank and "EVIL" has been discovered...although the money, an equivalent to a small countries GNP has somehow disappeared.
Rage and Smarty smell a rat, and together alongside newcomer Jeanette "Janet" Marshall, a Subject Profile expert who has dedicated her time on the force to tracking down her partners killers, they set out to investigate...
Gameplay[]
Players play as one of the three police officers and are given three locations to choose from.
Gameplay is similar to the previous title with colored reticles lining up to indicate how long the player has to shoot an enemy. Much like in the first game, players can disarm crooks gaining bonus points for Justice Shots or hitting an opponent three times to earn a "3 Point Shot".
The player will start with four hearts and six bullets in their gun. When the gun is empty players will have to reload their magazine either by aiming off screen and firing with the light gun or pressing the reload button on a gamepad.
Players can pick up power up weapons such as the Automatic, Rifle, Machine Gun, Shotgun and Magnum all of which have different attributes as well as extra health.
Players will lose their health if shot at by enemies or by shooting innocent civilians who occasionally pop up as hostages holding their hands up and pleading for the player to not shoot.
New to this game is the ability to choose a direction at certain forks in the road, allowing for replayability of stages with different scenarios.
At the end of each stage the player will fight a boss battle. Once all three stages have been beaten a fourth and final boss fight will be unlocked for the player to defeat.
