The Simpsons: Bart vs. the World is a 1993 platform game by Arc Developments. It is based on the Simpsons Family, and depicts them on international travels.

Plot[]

Bart Simpson wins a drawing competition on the Krusty the Clown show with the prize being the opportunity for him and his family to go on an around the world scavenger hunt, collecting Krusty collectibles.

The only problem is the competition has been rigged by Smithers, who plans to use this as a chance to get rid of the Simpsons family for good for all the trouble they've caused his boss, Mr. Burns, over the years.

Gameplay[]

Alongside the standard walking and jumping, Bart is able to climb certain objects such as ship masts or the Sphynx's headdress and can attack enemies with firecracker balls, which explode on contact. Bart starts each level unarmed, but can pick up small sacks of these balls which replenish his ammo by ten a piece.

Throughout the game players will need to keep an eye out for Krusty collectibles which look like vaguely Krusty shaped heads, and Grape Squishees, a Kwik-e-Mart speciality which will restore his health.

Collecting the Springfield founder Jebediah Springfield's statue head will cause Bart to be invincible to enemy attacks for a short period, and collecting the cape and cowl will transform him into Bartman, allowing him to fly for the duration of the transformation.

There are four worlds in total: China, North Pole, Egypt and Hollywood, with four stages to each(except Egypt which only has three). This usually consists of two platformer levels and two mini games. At the end of the second platformer level, Bart will face off against one of Burns' look-a-like relatives.

Trivia[]

  • Although Smithers and Mr. Burns appear on the box art they are absent from the game itself with only Burns' lookalike 'relatives' appearing in the title as bosses.
  • Moe appears dressed as a cowboy in the Hollywood level mini game where he slides drinks across the bar for Bart to jump over.
