Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a crossover platform fighter released in 2018 on the Nintendo Switch.
It is the third installment in the series to include SEGA characters, and the best selling of the series to date.
Gameplay[]
Gameplay remains largely the same from previous installments although there are a few gameplay tweaks to the SEGA characters:
- All Final Smash attacks are now cinematic, which means Sonic can no longer be controlled when he goes Super Sonic and will instead follow a set path.
- Bayonetta, having accidentally broken the last game due to severe balance issues, has been nerfed considerably.
- All stages now have Omega and Battlefield forms allowing for more balanced competitive stage play.
- Some Assist Trophies can be knocked out by fighters including the new SEGA assists of Akira, Knuckles and Rodin. Shadow remains undefeatable though.
- Spirits replace trophies.
Sega Content[]
- Sonic the Hedgehog returns yet again as a playable fighter. His animations have vastly improved to allow him to be considerably more expressive in this title.
- Bayonetta also returns as a playable fighter, but considerably better balanced this time round.
- Joker makes his playable debut as a fighter, and was the first DLC character announced.
- Shadow returns as an assist trophy. He uses Chaos Control to slow opponents down. Cannot be KO'd.
- Knuckles makes his debut as an assist trophy. He can attacking with a homing attack, punch combos or burrow into the ground before hitting the opponent with a rising uppercut. Can be KO'd.
- Rodin acts as the Bayonetta series assist trophy, attacking with giant arms much the same way Bayonetta can. Can be KO'd.
- Akira Yuki is now an assist trophy. He sports his original blocky Virtua Fighter design and attacks opponents with his martial arts. Can be KO'd.
- Green Hill Zone and Windy Hill Zone return for the Sonic the Hedgehog stages.
- Umbra Clock Tower returns as the stage for the Bayonetta series.
- Mementos debuts as the stage for the Persona series.
- Tails and Knuckles Mii Fighter costumes return.
- Akira Yuki and Jacky Bryant Mii Fighter costumes return.
- The protagonists of Persona 3 and Persona 4 appear as Mii Fighter Costumes.
- Morgana and Teddie appear as Mii Fighter hats.
- Tails, Knuckles and Silver appear as cameos on Green Hill Zone.
- Angels of Paradiso appear as background cameos on Umbra Clock Tower.
- Ryuji Sakamoto, Ann Takamaki, Yusuke Kitagawa, Makoto Niijima and Haru Okumura appear as cameos on Mementos.
- Lastly as is the case with all fighters, Joker recieved an Amiibo.
