Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U are a pair of 2014 compatible crossover platform fighters on the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
Following Sonic the Hedgehog's inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, third party content opened up for this sequel.
Sonic, of course, returns in this title battling it out against his previous console rival (and Olympic Sports competitor) Mario as well as being joined by fellow third party super stars Pac-Man and Megaman.
Gameplay[]
Gameplay remains largely the same as the previous title with the main change being the Wii U version can have up 8 player battles.
Another interesting addition is the inclusion of Mii Fighters, custom avatars who can be dressed up in special items of clothing to be made to look like other characters in combat.
Lastly the addition of the toys to life figurines, Amiibo, make their first major appearance here. By tapping an amiibo on the controller, players can bring a CPU bot that will slowly learn and adapt to the way you play, offering a harder opponent or the ability to train them to perform certain moves.
SEGA CONTENT[]
Super Smash Bros. For Wii U and 3DS' Sega content consists of:
- Sonic the Hedgehog returning as a fighter. He is the only third party fighter to do so for this game as Konami's Solid Snake is cut from the roster.
- Bayonetta makes her debut as a fighter. She is the last fighter revealed in the DLC for this game, and got in through popular votes in the Super Smash Bros. Ballot. Of the realisable characters, she was voted for the most.
- Shadow the Hedgehog returns as an assist trophy. His ability is once again Chaos Control which slows down time for everyone apart from the person who summoned him(or their teammates in team battle).
- Green Hill Zone returns as Sonic's home stage on the 3DS version.
- Windy Hill Zone from Sonic Lost World is Sonic's home stage on the Wii U version.
- Umbra Clock Tower is Bayonetta's home stage on both the 3DS and Wii U versions.
- Tails and Knuckles are downloadable Mii Fighter costumes. Tails is a Gunner type and Knuckles is a Brawler type costume.
- Additionally Tails and Knuckles appear on Green Hill Zone once again alongside Silver running through the loop in the background.
- Angels of Paradiso from Bayonetta appear in the background of the Umbra Clock Tower.
- Sonic, Super Sonic, Shadow, Tails, Knuckles, Silver, Dr. Eggman, Blaze, Amy Rose, Rouge, Cream, Chao, Jet, Big, Vector, Espio, Charmy, The Deadly Six and Animal Friends appear as trophies across the two versions.
- Bayonetta, Jeane, Rodin, Cereza and a final Smash trophy featuring the demon Gomorrah appear as trophies across the two versions.
- Both Sonic and Bayonetta recieved a physical Amiibo. Bayonetta recieved a 'Player 2' alternative Amiibo that has her in the alt from her first game, with the main design being based on her look in Bayonetta 2.
- Akira Yuki and Jacky Bryant are Mii Fighter outfits. Virtua Fighter is the only included series without a playable fighter.
Trivia[]
- Bayonetta is considered the most overpowered character in the game. She's so overpowered she had to be banned from tournaments in order to let other characters have a chance.
- All Smash fighters seem to be modified from the base of another character. Data was found that seems to indicate Bayonetta was based off of Zero Suit Samus' model.
- There is a large focus on Sonic Lost World in the Wii U version, due to this being the main Sonic title of the time.
- Sonic has crossed over with Link and Yoshi outside of this title in Sonic Lost World too.
