Sonic the Hedgehog The Screen Saver is a computer program featuring Sonic artwork and music for the screen saver. It also came with Sonic icons for customizing user's shortcuts. The program was bundled into North American and European copies of Sonic & Knuckles Collection, and was only sold as a stand-alone product in Japan. A majority of the screensaver art originates from a Japanese Sega magazine known as Harmony, which was only released to Sega employees during the 1990s.
The screen saver features original Sonic, Tails and Knuckles sprites that animate between Sonic pictures. If the user chooses, they can play music from Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles and the Japanese version of Sonic the Hedgehog CD (although the last only features music from the present and past versions of each level).
Most of the artwork images in this game are included in Sonic Jam, Sonic Gems Collection, Sonic Classic Collection, and collectible cards in Sonic Rivals 2. All of them were included in the Museum of Sonic Gems Collection. The images not included in Sonic Jam were the ones taken from box artwork and character artwork from previous Sonic games.
