Sonic Superstars (ソニックスーパースターズ Sonikku Sūpāsutāzu?) is a 2.5D platforming title in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise developed by Arzest. It was released worldwide on October 17, 2023.

Gameplay[]

Sonic Superstars is a 2.5D Sonic game in the style of the Classic Sonic games.

New to the series is a four player co-op multiplayer option, allowing four friends to play together as the four main playable characters, each of whom have their own special actions:

In addition to the character's individual abilities, the Chaos Emeralds now grant new power ups known as Emerald Power:

  • Ivy (Green): Allows the character to spawn a growable ivy vine that grows allowing them to reach higher up areas. The vine's direction is controllable
  • Avatar (Blue): Generates an army of clones that run across the screen dealing damage and collecting rings
  • Slow (Yellow): Allows the player to slow down time around them.
  • Extra (Silver): This Chaos Emerald gives a character a new ability.
    • Sonic obtains the homing dash
    • Tails gets a tail spin attack
    • Knuckles obtains a new punch move
    • Amy can throw her hammer
    • Trip obtains fire breath
  • Water (Cyan): Transforms the player character into a liquid that cannot drown, be crushed and can travel across large bodies of water and up waterfalls.
  • Vision (Purple): Allows the player to see hidden platforms and items.
  • Bullet (Red): Turns the player into a fireball that can be launched repeatedly in any direction.

Once the story mode has been beaten once, the players will unlock a new single player campaign featuring Trip.

There is also a multiplayer battle mode where players can play as customisable Eggman Robots known as 'Metal Fighters' in various challenges such as combat, racing and collecting. This can be player either offline or online.
