Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, also known in Europe as Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call, is a RPG by Atlus released in 2003 for the PlayStation 2.
Plot[]
The world is coming to an end. Two warring cults have led to the deaths of innocents.
The protagonist has agreed to meet up with some friends at a local medical center to visit their teacher, Yuko Takao. Along the way, the protagonist hears more and more about these cults, and upon arriving, notices the hospital is abandoned. Searching the abandoned hallways, he eventually comes across a mysterious man called Hikawa who attempts to take his life by summoning a demon to kill him.
Fortunately Yuko Takao turns up and threatens to exclude herself from Hikawa's plans if he murders her student. This is enough to save the protagonist's life, and Yuko confesses that her illness was a ruse and she forced the protagonist and his friends to come visit in order to save them from the 'Conception', as the hospital was one of the few safe places in Tokyo.
Moments later, a dark energy builds in the sky above, and black lightning rains down killing every living person in the area and demolishing several buildings. The protagonist blacks out, only to see an old woman and a child appear before him, offering him a gift. The gift is a strange centipede like creature that is dropped into the protagonists mouth, transforming him into the Demi-Fiend.
When the protagonist comes to, they are sitting on a hospital bed. They explore the hospital corridors, coming across Hijiri, a man who the protagonist met at the park. He asks what happened to the protagonist, before suggesting the Demi-Fiend, as the only one capable of fighting the demons, go find out what is going on.
Gameplay[]
Like many Shin Megami Tensei titles, the player can recruit demons to their party, during battle encounters.
Trivia[]
- Joker dresses up as the Demi-Fiend in Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight.
- A HD remaster was released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC.
- Dante from Devil May Cry appears in the game, having been hired to hunt down the Demi-Fiend. The PAL version includes a sticker on the front advertising this fact. This is the origin of the 'Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series' meme.
