Shenmue the Animation is a cut down animated version of the events that occur in the Shenmue series.
Plot[]
When returning from a martial arts tournament, Ryo Hazuki comes home to his families dojo to discover his father Iwao Hazuki in a life and death battle against a mysterious chinese martial artist.
Iwao Hazuki is killed in the conflict, with the martial artists asking him if he remembers the man he killed. Ryo, wishing to find out the truth about his father's past vows to chase down the martial artist known as Lan Di and bring him to justice.

Differences from the games[]
- We witness Ryo's martial arts tournament
- The scar on Ryo's face is caused by Lan Di rather than the last opponent in the martial arts tournament.
- Ryo's motivation is said to be finding out about his father's past rather than exacting revenge upon Lan Di.
- Lan Di's car hits Tom Johnson's hot dog stand rather than nearly hitting a customer. The orphaned kitten's mother is not run over in this version of events.
- The police are called to investigate Iwao Hazuki's death
