Sands of Destruction is a RPG released by Sega for the Nintendo DS in 2008.
Plot[]
Humans are no longer the dominant species, having been usurped by Ferals, aka beast men. Humans are treated as second class citizens and racism runs riot, with humans being persecuted wherever they go.
A terrorist organisation known as the World Destruction Comittee has been actively seeking a way to destroy the world, lead by Morte, an unhinged young woman who wishes to bring about the apocalypse, attacking the many bases of the Beastlords and killing dozens of feral soldiers.
Elsewhere a young soft spoken human man known as Kyrie has been living a peaceful life in his village led by one of the few benevolant beastlords, Ursa Rex. His life is turned upside down when wanted posters with his name written on them fall from the sky. Morte has found out his name, and he has been said to be the man who can destroy the world.
Although Kyrie has had nothing to do with Morte or the World Destruction Comittee and the posters don't even look anything like him, Ursa Rex requests Kyrie go with Lupus Rex's guards to clear up the confusion. Kyrie agrees, although a mysterious voice in his head tells him to run or else he'll die. Kyrie does so, unsure of why he is, and is seen as being guilty as a result. Once surrounded, the voice calls out to him again, surrounding him in sand and shooting out shockwaves that reduce the guards to sand upon being hit by it. In his confusion Kyrie ends up accidentally destroying his entire village and Ursa Rex, blacking out from the stress.
When Kyrie comes too, he is arrested and placed in a prison holding cell within an airship, ready to face judgement at Lupus Rex's hands. Morte however appears, saving him, and requests he destroy the world and everyone on it for her. Kyrie, confused, is forced into escaping with her...

Trivia[]
- Sands of Destruction recieved an anime and a manga adaption. The events of the story vary between all three versions. For example, Felis Rex is a largely neutral party within the game showcasing no true racism towards humans, but actively tries to kill Kyrie in the anime. Kyrie's bravery varies between all three versions too.
- Taupy, one of the main cast members appears as a Mag in Phantasy Star Zero.
- The original story draft was far more violent than the end result, with humans being cultivated as a food source for the ferals and humans would actively be shown being devoured by them.[1]
