Saint Nurari, sometimes known as St. Nurari, is a supporting character in the Alex Kidd series.
Appearance[]
Saint Nurari is depicted as an elderly bald man with a long white beard wearing a robe and carrying a walking stick made out of a knobbled tree branch.
History[]
Saint Nurari was a hermit living on an island next to Lake Fathom. He specialised in a unique martial art; Shellcore, the ability to shatter bricks by enlargening your fist or feet and spent many years becoming a master of the technique.
Fourteen years ago evil men came to his island, carrying with him a small child they had kidnapped from the country of Radaxian. Saint Nurari immedietly knew who the child was upon seeing the royal Sun Medallion around the child's neck. Saint Nurari rescued the baby prince from the evil men and began raising him as his own child, Alex Kidd.
Seven years passed, and Alex began his training under Saint Nurari to master Shellcore martial arts on the nearby Mt. Eternal. Alex trained daily, eventually mastering the technique, and after seven years his training was complete. On his way down the mountain to return to Saint Nurari and report he'd mastered the technique and have dinner with him, Alex came across some petrified villagers. Fearing for the worst, Alex rushed down Mt. Eternal and across Lake Fathom. Along the way he came across Gooseka, one of Janken the Great's generals who stopped him in his tracks. Alex demanded that he has to see Saint Nurari, but Gooseka challenges him to a best of three life or death Janken match. Alex defeats Gooseka and makes his way onward.
Upon arriving at Saint Nurari's cave, Alex is relieved to see his master is fine. Saint Nurari reveals Alex's past to him, that he is the missing kidnapped prince of Radaxian and that his kingdom is now under the threat of Janken the Great's tyranny, giving him one last mission; to save the populace from Janken. For this end, Saint Nurari has prepared the Peticoptor to help Alex get back to his kingdom, and gives him an onigiri for his travels.
Trivia[]
- In Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, Saint Nurari hands the Sun Medallion over to Alex himself. In the original Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Alex starts off with the sun medallion in game, although the manual mentions a dying man had handed it to him entrusting Alex with it and a map of Aries before passing on.
- In Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX he's referred to as Master Nurari. Despite this his island is still called "The Island of St. Nurari".
- As Alex Kidd in Miracle World started off as a Dragonball game before Sega lost the license and was retooled into an original IP, St. Nurari was likely created to replace Master Roshi.[1]
