Safari Hunt was a pack-in title for the Sega Master System Plus, as a showcase piece for the Light Phaser.
Plot[]
The player is a hunter out hunting game.
Gameplay[]
Safari Hunt is played exclusively with the Light Phaser. Players have a limited amount of bullets and must shoot every animal they possibly can. The stages and the animals are as follows:
Round 1: Lake[]
| Animal | Points | Shot animation |
|---|---|---|
| Duck | 300 | Turns into a roast duck and flies offscreen with a bandage on it's side |
| Fish | 1000 | Turns into a fishbone before landing back in the lake. Holds up sign saying '1000' from the lake. The points aren't counted until the fish splashes back down. |
| Rabbit | 1000 | Hurries offscreen carrying a sign that reads '1000' with a bandage on it, and one crossed out eye. |
Round 2: Forest[]
| Animal | Points | Shot animation |
|---|---|---|
| Pheasant | 200 | Holds up a sign saying '200' as it flies away with a bandage on it |
| Armadillo | 1000 | Rolls into a ball and bounces off screen |
| Bear | 2000 | Gets onto hindlegs to attack, must be shot three times. Turns yellow, gains lots of scars and runs off screen hurredly. |
Round 3: Jungle[]
| Animal | Points | Shot animation |
|---|---|---|
| Spider | 100 | Explodes into smaller spiders |
| Monkey | 300 | Falls out the trees when shot |
| Bat | 500 | When shot their wings are full of holes, flies offscreen holding a '500' sign |
| Panther | 2000 | Runs offscreen with '2000' symbol on their side |
To proceed to the next screen players must hit a certain high score. Upon getting past the Jungle stage, the game loops back round making Lake the fourth level again. This loop continues until the player reaches level 69, at which point the game is complete.
