Roommania is a duology of life simulation games released by Sega in the early 2000s. Developed by Sega's music division Wave Master, the series has the player take the role of an unseen observant in the life of a young man named Neji Taihei, subtly influencing his day-to-day activities to help him lead a more fulfilling life.
History[]
The original concept for Roommania was created by Sega sound designer Tomoko Sasaki, who came up with the idea of following the life of a young person with inspiration from her memories of living life as a college student, as well as her at-the-time current fixation on live webcams. Another notable aspect of the series is the virtual singer Serani Poji, created by Sasaki and several other members of Sega's sound division. Poji exists within the world of Roommania and her music accompanies the games, though the project is popular beyond the series and has continued to put out music after new Roommania games stopped being made.
Games[]
- Roommania #203 (2000) - Dreamcast, PlayStation 2
- New Roommania: Porori Seishun (2002) - PlayStation 2
Cameos[]
- HI sCoool! SeHa Girls - Roommania is referenced in the Puyo Puyo episode of the series - later on, Neji appears again in the final two episodes.
- Sega's Go Sega 60th Anniversary - Roommania is among the many franchises featured in the "Icon Present Campaign", where a plethora of Sega-themed social media icons were made available.
Trivia[]
- A spiritual successor developed by an indie studio, titled Project One-room and taking place in a new setting with a new protagonist, was planned - however, it was cancelled in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, due to both development complications and the developer feeling that such a game was no longer appropriate to release in the current climate.
