Puyo Puyo Champions, known as Puyo Puyo eSports in Japan, is a puzzle video game released in 2018 in Japan for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, and in 2019 worldwide for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Steam.
Gameplay[]
Unlike most Puyo Puyo titles, there is no plot or story mode in this game, and the focus is instead on learning the gameplay and competing in multiplayer matches.
Puyo Puyo Champions features two main game mechanic modes:
- Puyo Puyo 2 mode: Clear Puyos and drop garbage puyos onto your opponents! If a Puyo reaches the x on your screen, you lose!
- Puyo Pop Fever mode: Cancel out Garbage Puyos to build your Fever gauge! If a Puyo reaches the x, you lose!
From there, the game also includes multiple modes:
- Solo play: Play matches against CPU opponents
- Multiplayer: Play with or against friends in local multiplayer
- Lessons: Learn everything from the basic rules to advanced techniques
- Challenge: This mode has players compete in either official challenge, score challenge or time challenge modes.
- Online: Compete online against other players, check out global rankings and watch uploaded replays
- Options: View your play stats or adjust game options.
Once players have selected a mode, they can choose a character and compete against either a CPU or other player to rack up chain combos and cause opponents to touch the X at the top.

- This is the third Puyo Puyo title to be brought to the west and the second one to use the English voice cast.
