Parpalin, sometimes known as Parpalin the Pursuer or "Paper Head", is a character of Alex Kidd series. He is a high ranking member of Janken the Great's invading army.

Parpalin's original design.

Parpalin, much like his fellow commanders Gooseka and Chokkina, has a head shaped like a hand signal used in Rock-Paper-Scissors. In Parpalin's case his head is shaped like the 'paper' symbol, or a open palm.

In Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Parpalin is designed to be muscular and angry looking, similar to Gooseka, but in Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX he is overweight and always smiling. In both versions the thumb appendage on his face give him a chubby cheek appearance however.

History[]

Parpalin hails from Planet Paperrock, a planet where disputes are settled with life and death matches of Rock-Paper-Scissors. Having proved his skill in the game, he managed to become the first commander of Janken the Great's army and came to Planet Aries alongside Chokkina and Gooseka to make Janken the new king.

Parpalin is the last commander Alex Kidd encounters and he does so in Bingoo Lowland, where in the DX version Parpalin comments that he hopes Alex had not stepped on any of his precious flowers along the way, before challenging Alex to Janken. Alex ultimately wins, causing Parpalin to be transformed into an an Onigiri/Hamburger/Spanish Omelette or Fish and Chips meal, which Alex proceeds to devour.

Being eaten doesn't seem to have killed Parpalin however as he shows up yet again. Alex tells Parpalin he absolutely has not stepped on any flowers this time, but Parpalin suggests Alex must have crushed other flowers at some point and for that he must be defeated. They engage in another Janken battle which Alex wins yet again, but this time Parpalin refuses to go down that easy and attacks Alex after his victory.

In Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Parpalin seperates his head from his body similar to Gooseka and Chokkina but he attacks in a far more erratic pattern than either of the other commanders. If Alex can punch his head, he will defeat Parpalin for good.

In Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, he begins leaping into the air, stomping down hard and summoning a bunch of storm clouds when stopped. These clouds shoot out and rain lightning directly below them, forcing Alex to step carefully between the gaps to approach Parpalin. Punching him enough times will eventually defeat him for good.

Trivia[]

  • Parpalin is the only member Janken officer to not appear on the Japanese box art for Alex Kidd in Miracle World.
  • Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX shows that Janken's army is filled with numerous henchmen that look like Parpalin, Chokkina and Gooseka. Parpalin's fellow Paper-Head's appear to be cannoneers, firing cannonballs on Alex as he approaches. It can be assumed Parpalin is in charge of the Paper-Head troops.
  • Upon finding Janken he claims he is surprised that Alex defeated his commanders, and in particular Parpalin. This indicates that Parpalin is second only to Janken in Rock-Paper-Scissors battles and he considers him his strongest soldier.
