Opbot (or Opbot DV8) is a reoccurring character within the Endless series.

Appearance[]

Opbot is a humanoid robot with a single glowing green cycloptic eye that acts as an energy gauge for their operational capabilities. Their metal is yellow. They're often depicted in a surgeons outfit, showcasing their occupation as a medical assistant robot.

History[]

Dungeon of the Endless

Opbot was a part of an elite commando squad, acting as the medical officer and tech drone during a mission on Regulus 4 alongside Ken Massoqui. However, one night the Groits attacked. Ken, who was on guard duty was busy practicing knots (on himself) and Opbot was in the medical tent "studying specimens". The Groits allegedly got to Opbots programming, causing him to malfuction and kill people, and their commanding officer, Captain Miles got a dishonourable discharge due to the event.

After this event, Opbot was being transported aboard a prisoner ship that was shot down. Whilst listed as 'Emergency Paramedic', due to Opbot's unwilling murders, they were to be tried as a prisoner. After crash landing Opbot alongside Ken Massoqui and several crew and prisoners made their way through the Dungeons of the Endless, protecting the crystal as they did so before eventually escaping to Auriga's surface.

Endless Legend

Opbot was found scorched and blackened in an ancient cave on Auriga by the Vaulters, a group of underground humans. They were restored by the Vaulter's leader, Zolya, as she seemed to find something special within Opbot. Opbot swore to be her faithful servant until the end of days for bringing them back to life.

Opbot's memory circuits were fried, and they only recalled a few harrowing images; the feel of blood, the gargled screams and tormented faces. To save themselves from madness they focused on the here and now, aiding the Vaulters in their goals of gaining more land in Auriga. They eventually recalled their name after performing an amputation on a Vaulter who had been grieviously injured in a recent battle, and with it their memories began to return.

They'd been performing surgery on the wounded on a great ark, but after performing endless surgeries under flickering lights, the anesthetics began to run low, and Opbot was forced to perform the surgeries without the aid of anesthetics leading to terrifying screams and endless blood which haunted them. They'd realised that the endless tortured screams had caused them to snap. They, a medical droid made to heal people, had killed people instead. Opbot had killed numerous men and women, but had fortunately been stopped and left to rust. However, the Vaulters were the descendants of the people they'd killed. Ashamed and racked with guilt, Opbot attempted to find redemption through aiding Zolya and her people in their quest.

Eventually Opbot revealed the truth to Zolya. It was a hard thing to hear, but she was glad to know rather than not. She asked Opbot if it was likely to happen again. They replied that they didn't think so, but they couldn't be certain. Zolya responded "You harm a single one of my people, and I will have you broken into a million pieces." but kept the secret to herself. Opbot redoubled their efforts although soon the Vaulters were at war with the Necrophage.

With endless hordes of Necrophage, the Vaulters were constantly having to come to Opbot's surgeon table. Opbot soon became the top medical surgeon amongst the Vaulters ranks, although they began to give themself some downtime to recover between operations to avoid another psychotic breakdown. After telling Zolya, she posted four guards at his station. They believed they were to protect Opbot, but in actual fact they were to end Opbot should the worst happen.

Eventually with the aid of Opbot fast tracking the Vaulter's technological knowledge, the Vaulters managed to repair their ancient colony ship, the Argosy, and flee to the stars in time to escape Auriga's destruction due to the Necrophage, although Zolya's daughter, Judit, remained behind on Auriga to see through it's destruction.

Endless Space 2

Opbot spent centuries keeping the Vaulters alive on the Argosy during their cryo-sleep using themselves as a battery to power their life support. However, Opbot had began to run out of power and began to lose hope for the Vaulters showing regret that they could not save Zolya. Just at that moment the Argosy comes across a meteor filled with Dust, the power of which charges Opbot's batteries back up and reviving Zolya and her clan, waking her and causing her to be revived.

Trivia[]

  • Opbot has the most canonical appearances of any character in the Endless franchise, starring in all but Love Thyself: A Horatio Story
  • Opbot plays the role of the narrator for the Vaulters quest line in Endless Legend
  • As only one faction can survive the destruction of Auriga in Endless Legend and the Vaulters appear canonically as the survivors, Opbot's aid in fast tracking their technological know how proved invaluable to the Vaulter's survival.
  • Opbot is the only character from the Endless series to have their own game in the short lived free to play release of Endless Zone. Horatio also technically has a game dedicated to him, however the original does not feature, only his clones.
  • Opbot's unique skill in Dungeon of the Endless is Surgical Striker. This boosts their DPS, although Opbot is quite fragile and cannot stand up to hordes of monsters.
