One Piece Bounty Rush is a mobile 4 vs 4 PVP capture the flag/control point and fighting game with gacha mechanics developed by Sega and produced by Bandai Namco. It is the first One Piece game Sega worked on. It originally launched on March 29, 2018 but was taken down April 10, 2018 for long term maintenance. It was later released on January 31, 2019 with both graphical and gameplay overhauls.
Gameplay[]
The game currently features nearly 300 playable characters from across the One Piece series with new characters being released monthly.
The main gameplay mode is League Battle, a 4 vs 4 area control match where the aim of the game is to have the most flags/treasure on the map.
Cast Roles[]
The cast of characters are divided between three class roles;
- Attackers who specialise in combat against other player characters and have a high ATK stat. They focus on KOing as many enemies as possible to make Runners and Defenders jobs easier.
- Runners who capture the flag quicker than the other roles and are usually equipped with mechanics around capturing flags/treasure. Often have a high SPD stat but have subpar defences.
- Defenders whose role is to protect the treasure areas that have been captured from the opposing team. They have a high DEF stat.
Elements[]
The game includes an elemental rock paper scissors aspect with the cast split further into different element colours:
- Red is strong against Green, but weak against Blue
- Blue is strong against Red, but weak against Green
- Green is strong against Blue, but weak against Red
In 2024 two more elements were introduced;
- Light which is slightly stronger against the three original elements of Red, Blue and Green, but very weak to Dark elements.
- Dark which is very strong against Light, but slightly weak to Red, Blue and Green.
Characters have a basic attack skill which can combo into a small string of simple attacks as well as two special skills which are more powerful or useful but have a cooldown preventing them from being used often. Additionally each character has a set of personal traits and abilities which may give them an edge.
Obtaining and levelling up characters[]
Characters are obtained via Gacha mechanics, by spending Rainbow Diamonds earnt in game or purchased in the game's shop for real life money. Pulling a character from a banner once will unlock the character at Level 60, with each additional copy netting the player X200 character shards.
At level 80 all traits are unlocked, and the character can be levelled to Level 100.
The characters can be further improved via collecting shards using either the Special training treadmill or buying shards using earnt in game points and special orbs, and attaching Medals that can be levelled up to add additional strength and traits to the player character.
Characters can also be improved by adding Support characters to them in battle with complimentary traits, pushing them further beyond their own limitations.
Rarity[]
Characters are split into different rarity levels.
- Level 2's are easy to level up to maximum but are not suitable for battle, making them great for early Support building. They can be levelled up with bronze crystal fragments.
- Level 3's are slightly trickier to level up to maximum due to their increased crystal fragment drop rarity. Like level 2's they are not suitable for battle due to weaker stats. They can be levelled up with silver crystal fragments.
- Level 4's are the default gold standard characters and are the ones used for combat. They can be levelled up with gold crystal fragments, but are the hardest to max out. They are also split into further rarity/quality levels:
- Step Ups: Considered the weakest of Level 4's, but much easier to level up than Bounty Fests and EXs due to free access at the Battle Points shop to their fragments. These are considered the weakest viable characters in League.
- Bounty Fests: The stronger of the Level 4's. They are harder to level up than Step Ups due to the Battle Points shop for them costing real life money to access.
- EXs: Legendary characters that have broken statistics and abilities and are the strongest in the game by far. They can only be levelled up with Gold Fragments and neither shop carry their individual shards.
Trivia[]
- Some characters have unique traits that match their series abilities.
- For example; Luffy units nullify the shock trait due to his rubber body not being affected by electricity. They also nullify Boa Hancock's unique trait; Entrance, which prevents him from turning into stone due to not having indecent thoughts about her.
- Likewise Usopp units nullify Perona's unique status 'Negative' due to him already being negative.
- Mr. 1, aka Daz Bones, was utilised in some of the game's very first promotional material facing off with Sir Crocodile against Luffy and Zoro. 7 years later and no Mr. 1 unit has been released in the game.
- The game is often erroneously attributed to Bandai Namco alone, with Sega's involvement not highlighted until an update in 2025 which added the credits and listed them as the development team behind the game.
- On April 1st, a joke character tends to be released. In 2021, Gaimon, a man stuck in a treasure chest box, was chosen. In 2023, a Kung Fu Dugong (a type of seal/turtle animal) was chosen, 2024 introduced Demalo Black, aka Fake Luffy and 2025 introduced St. Charlos, a pompous evil Celestial Dragon who has little combat power.
