Namco Ltd. (株式会社ナムコ Kabushiki-gaisha Namuko) was a Japanese game developer and publisher founded by Masaya Nakamura. The company merged with Bandai in 2006 to form Bandai Namco Games.
History[]
The company was established on June 1, 1955 as Nakamura Maufacturing Co., Ltd. (有限会社中村製作所 Yūgen-gaisha Nakamura Seisakujo). It changed its name to Namco in 1977.
In a 1977 interview, Masaya Nakamura claimed that Periscope was the first amusement device he built. Namco stated that they released the game in 1965. The game was initially known as Torpedo Launcher.
