Kung Fu Kid (魔界列伝 Makai Retsuden?) is a beat em' up game released for the Sega Master System in 1987 and a sequel to the SG-1000's Dragon Wang.

Plot[]

The evil demon king, Mandanda returned to life after thousands of years and began to terrorise the villagers of Wang's hometown. In order to exterminate the evil demon, Wang's kung fu master, Tayron, went to confront Mandanda, but was overwhelmed and killed in battle

In order to avenge his master, Wang prepares himself to face Mandanda, but in order to do so he must first defeat Mandanda's loyal demonic servants in combat and make his way through the Lion's Castle where they reside.

Gameplay[]

Wang is able to perform a standing high kick, a crouching low kick and a flying kick. Additionally Wang is able to jump kick off of walls using the flying kick to reach higher heights.

Alongside his martial arts skills, Wang is able to throw talisman at his enemies to defeat them. The talisman can be found in the air when Wang attacks enemies and is worth 5 points fo collection. On top of which, the talisman can be thrown upto 99 times during the playthrough. Each talisman is able to take down different numbers of enemies.

The talisman can also be upgraded in Round 2 by defeating a lobster to increase it's power, and then again in Round 4 if Wang is able to defeat Kyong Shi. Each upgrade increases it's power, speed and throw distance. They are useful against boss monsters such as Kyong Shi and Madanda in particular who are weak to them.

Wang has access to a jar which he can use to ward off enemy fire balls. However the trade off is that they are hidden in Round 5 and can be accessed by kicking walls in various places, but doing so can also summon fireballs.

Lastly there are Wang's favourite food, Sweet Buns which are able to refill his health meter at the top of the screen. They are found in walls in Round 3 and Round 5, but only one will be obtainable by Wang each playthrough.

After making his way through the hordes of each stage, Wang will be forced into a boss battle against Madanda's servants, with the exception of Stage 6 in which Wang skips the horde battle and instead must face off against Giant Gorrida, Rinrin and Minmin, Chu-Ho, Boxer Miao and Rongwang the Puzzle Wizard one after another although Wang's health is restored between battles.
