Kohran Li

Kohran Li (李紅蘭 Ri Kouran?) is a character of Sakura Wars series. She is a member of the first generation Imperial Combat Revue's Flower Division, serving as a combat pilot, chief mechanic and engineer of the unit.

Appearance[]

Kohran Li is a young woman with light freckles and purple hair that is usually braided into two pigtails. She wears large round glasses and is almost always seen in a red cheongsam dress in warm weather, and a red tangzhuan suit in the winter; in the stage shows, she is most often seen in the latter, regardless of the depicted season. She wears a green mechanic's suit when performing maintenance on the Revue's spiricle armor.

History[]

Past[]

Kohran Li was born on March 3, 1906 in Beijing, China, where she lived with her parents and sisters. She took interest in machinery from a young age, with her first successful project being repairing her father's pocketwatch. She lived her life in peace until the Xinhai Revolution broke out in 1911. Kohran lost her home and family in 1912 in the midst of the conflict, becoming an orphan. She only narrowly managed to avoid death herself, as a potentially fatal gunshot was blocked by her father's pocketwatch, which she was keeping in her shirt pocket. Soon after she was taken in by a family of farmers living in the outskirts of Dalian, with whom she lived until 1919, when Ayame Fujieda recognized her spirit power and recruited her to join what would become the Imperial Combat Revue. Upon moving to Japan that same year, she lived in the city of Kobe and was raised by the eccentric British inventor Percy Howard, who helped foster her own love for inventing. As a result of being around Howard and living in Kobe, she learned to speak Japanese with a notedly peculiar Kansai dialect. In 1921, she reunited with Ayame and moved to Tokyo, where, after being encouraged by Ikki Yoneda to pursue her passion for machinery, she started work as an engineer at the Hanayashiki Branch and assisted with the production of the first Kobu, as well as the Skywhale and Goraigo.

Personality[]

Kohran has a vibrant, upbeat personality and a pronounced sense of humor. She is thus considered the Revue's "mood-maker" and often plays a lead role in the Flower Division's comedy productions. She is an avid inventor, constantly creating new machines and gadgets with the sole intent of improving the lives of others. Though her inventions frequently fail, often resulting in large explosions, she rarely ever loses her determination and instead looks forward to her future projects. She is particularly fond of the Kobu spiricle armors, treating them and referring to them as if they were her own children. Despite her outward optimism, the scars of her childhood trauma as a war orphan run deep. She feels a profound anger towards those who would use technology to harm innocent people, and the thought of her inventions ever being used towards that end terrifies her.
