Hanzo is the main antagonist of Alex Kidd in Shinobi World.

Appearance

Hanzo is dressed in a blue ninja garb with a black belt and brown boots and bracers. His most notable feature is the white Hyottoko Mask he wears over his face, complete with rosy cheeks and lopsided rounded mouth.

Upon his defeat it is revealed that Hanzo's face looks exactly the same as the mask, but with his skin tone.

In the opening, Hanzo drapes himself in a dark cloak and a golden version of his mask and is roughly twice the size of Alex Kidd before he absorbs the white ninja's soul.

History

Past

10,000 years ago, Hanzo was defeated and banished by the White Ninja on Planet Shinobi.

Weakened from their duel, it took him 10,000 years to return. Still not at full power, Hanzo began looking around for sacrifices to use in a ritual that would revive his power allowing him to take control of the Miracle World.

In Alex Kidd in Shinobi World, Hanzo coming across Alex Kidd and his girlfriend in a flower field, he floated down and swiped her under his cloak before ascending to the sky once more.

Alex Kidd, mortified, was offered the aid of the White Ninja, who gave him his power via a white light ball that entered his body filling him with courage, strength and aging him slightly. Later, Alex Kidd uses this power to fight against Hanzo.

Hanzo starts the fight by using a golden barrier that will not only make himself invulnerable, but also damage Alex if he touches it, forcing Alex to keep his distance. Once Hanzo drops the barrier Alex can slice at him with his sword. Upon defeating this phase, Hanzo will begin to transform into a whirlwind, but can be damaged in this state. Defeating him here and Hanzo will enter his final battle phase where he uses a shadow versions of himself to attack Alex, but is still vulnerable to Alex's sword.

Upon being defeated a third time, Hanzo's mask will crumble, shattering and revealing his face before Hanzo himself explodes into a puff of smoke.

Trivia

• As with all bosses in Alex Kidd in Shinobi World, Hanzo is a parody of a Shinobi boss. In Hanzo's case, he is a parody of the Ninja Master who wears a Kabuki style mask which makes him look like a demon. Hanzo meanwhile wears a different type of Japanese mask, usually associated with a comedic silly and childlike role.
• At over 10,000 years old Hanzo is the oldest known villain in the Alex Kidd series, with Ziggurat being around for around half that length.
• Hanzo and his underlings are also the only western exclusive antagonists in the series.
