Fredi (Korean: 프레디 Peuledi), known in Japan as Umaizou, is a major antagonist and boss in Puzzle & Action: Treasure Hunt. The brains of the bandit group Skull and responsible for helping steal the titular treasure, he is the game's second boss and is located at the lake Ness, with the Scubas as his subordinates. He later shows up as a regular enemy in the last stage alongside his fellow bosses.
Personality & Abilities[]
Fredi is a lanky schemer with an affinity for dynamite, and he likes to combine both trickery and bombs in his plans. This is best demonstrated in the setup to his boss battle, where he distracts the adventurers with a "look behind you" trick and knocks them unconscious with a hammer, before tying them up and leaving them in a room with a huge dynamite stick that he lights. Like his companions, he loves riches, and is determined to keep the stolen treasure out of anyone else’s hands.
Fredi's boss battle is a race against the clock to escape from the ropes bounding the player before the giant dynamite stick explodes. The player must rapidly wiggle the joystick (or D-pad in the case of the Sega Saturn port) to break all the ropes before the 10-second time limit runs out; if successful, the adventurers will sneak up on Fredi and push the dynamite near him, causing it to explode and send him flying into the air. If the player runs out of time, they lose a life and the battle restarts with additional time added. After the battle, Fredi escapes in his monster truck, initiating the bonus stage.
Fredi returns in the last stage of the game as a normal enemy, and five games must be cleared to defeat him. In Original Mode, after a minigame is chosen, there is a random chance that he will use a bomb to destroy it, forcing the player to choose another minigame. Depending on the scenario, this can either be harmful or helpful, as while it can potentially result in an item being wasted or a desired game being destroyed, it can also potentially clear an undesirable minigame from the roulette. He also makes an appearance in the background of the final boss battle, cheering on the King Shark.

Trivia[]
- Much like the other bosses of Puzzle & Action: Treasure Hunt, the design and personality of Fredi is a reference to a member of the Doronbo Gang from the popular anime series Yatterman. In Fredi’s case, he is modeled after Boyacky, as the two are both lanky henchmen dressed in green who use their cunning to achieve their goals.
