Megumi Rescue is a Japanese exclusive Master System title that used the Paddle Control controller.
Gameplay[]
Players take control of a trio of fire fighters, two on the ground holding a sheet and one who they bounce skywards with that sheet to rescue people trapped within the burning building.
When bounced skywards the player can choose when to grab onto a window, although touching a window covered in fire will lose some health. If it's a window with a person hanging out of it, the player will grab them and descend. The two on the ground must catch the fire fighter and the civilian to score points
Complicating matters, as the fire spreads to their windows, the civilians will leap from their window, making the player have to juggle catching them and their firefighter. Civilians not caught will die, and cost the player points.
The solo bounced up firefighter can also grab onto windows without any civilians in to search for bonus items:
- The fire extinguisher refreshes your health
- Money and safes add additional points.
- Keys will activate the sprinkler system putting out all the fire in one go and ending the round, saving the civilians immedietly who will walk out the building safely and into an ambulance.
Much like the key item there is also a passing ambulance helicoptor that if grabbed onto will end the stage, successfully rescuing civilians.
If every civilian is rescued successfully, a fire engine that initially dropped the trio off will return, firing a rocket full of water that suffocates the fire, completing the level.
Trivia[]
- Megumi Rescue is one of the only four titles that required the Paddle Control to play. The others are Alex Kidd BMX Trial, Galactic Protector and Woody Pop.
- Megumi Rescue was converted from an arcade coin-op game, but the arcade game itself never released beyond an unsuccessful location test, making it a Master System exclusive title.
- This was Aicom Corporation's first title. The company was later absorbed into Sammy, but spun off again into Yumekobo Co. Ltd.
