Story[]
In the Endless year 034230...
The military discovered an irregularity on the planet Menekul, when checking a pile of corpses in a contested zone. Someone in the heirarchy decided to blame it on mutiny and insubordination, and fingered Opbot as a scapegoat. Opbot decided not to stick around...
A field surgeon and organ recovery specialist, now accused of being a conspirator, Opbot decided that the odds were better in a stolen ship out in space than they would be in a military trial that smelled badly of a cover-up...
Ever resourceful and skilled at the art of survival, it's one smart robot against a galaxy of hostiles...
Gameplay[]
Endless Zone is a modern day love letter to Fantasy Zone, taking many of the shoot 'em up mechanics from that series. These include large enemy vehicles that spawn their enemies, the movement patterns from some of Opa-Opa's enemies, the collecting of Dust(Endless' money equivalent), large enemy bosses, a scrolling screen of enemies that must be cleared to make said bosses appear and even an upgrade shop that allows Opbot to spend some of that hard collected Dust to obtain upgrades.
There are four worlds in total the player must guide Opbot through to escape his pursuers.
Trivia[]
- The lead character, Opbot, is a reoccurring character in the Endless series, making playable appearances in Endless Space, Dungeon of the Endless, Endless Legend and Endless Space 2. Overall Opbot is the most reoccurring singular character in the series.
- The ending screen has a silhouette of a Drakken bartender behind the Amoeba player. This is technically the first appearance of Endless Dungeon's Fassie in the series. The final shot seems to imply it's an arcade game within Endless Dungeon's saloon.
- The game was briefly brought back to Steam allowing players to obtain the game for a short 48 hour period between 14th December 2020 and 16th December 2020. The game became permenantly delisted after this date.
