Doki Doki Penguin Land is the first game in the Doki Doki Penguin Land series. It was released in 1985 for the SG-1000 and MSX consoles.

Gameplay[]

The player plays as the husband penguin, rolling his egg out of an igloo. His job is to get the egg down safely through the layers of ice to where his wife is, whilst avoiding polar bears, moles and avoiding dropping the egg down too far and causing it to crack open. There is a safety line that will indicate how far the egg can drop without breaking.

The player can use the penguin's beak to dig into the ice blocks below and to the left or right of himself, allowing them to carve out lower drops for the egg. They can also roll the egg left and right, and jump on top of the egg should it get stuck to unstick it. Lastly they can also trigger bolders to fall and crush polar bear enemies who would otherwise cause problems by smashing the egg.

The player penguin himself is invincible, but can be stunned by enemies preventing him from protecting the egg at a vital moment.

Upon getting the egg to the bottom of the screen, it will hatch into some sort of jewellry and the player is awarded with a score for how quickly they managed to get it there.
