Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax is a crossover 2D fighting game featuring light novel characters from the Dengeki Bunko. It also features Sega guest characters and stages. An updated version, Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax Ignition was released exclusively in Japan in 2015.
Plot[]
The playable character is summoned by Denshin (who takes the form of Dreamcast from Sega Hard Girls) in order to save the dreams of their world from the evil Zetsumu, who is copying the forms of Denshin's previous summoned fighters he defeats and absorbs. The player character is the last hope to stop Zetsumu.
After defeating Zetsumu's multiple other forms, Zetsumu, out of desperation swallows Denshin and transforms into either Akira Yuki or Selvaria Bles in the final combat encounter, declaring the player their mortal enemy. Upon defeating Zetsumu, he spits out Denshin and the defeated fighters, allowing them and their worlds to return to normal. Denshin then sends the player character back to their original worlds.
Gameplay[]
Fighting is done on a 2D plane, with each character having a variety of weak, medium and strong attacks alongside a support character who can be summoned to create openings and elongate combos with the main player character.
Attacking the opponent will build up a Climax Gauge which allows the player to unleash a powerful special attack known as Climax Arts(which uses two stock of the gauge), a more powerful special move known as EX special moves(which uses one stock), a Reflection Guard that allows players to push enemies away and free themselves from combos (uses one stock) and the ability to cancel their support attack to throw in some mix ups.
The lightning bolt icons above the Climax Gauge are known as "Trump Cards" and each character has a different effect. You can obtain a Trump Card upon losing a round, to help turn the situation around.
