Comical Machine Gun Joe (コミカルマシンガンジョー) is a Japanese exclusive shoot 'em up for the Master System, and part of the Sega My Card range.
Plot[]
The player plays as the titular Machine Gun Joe, on the hunt for 'El Doba', head of a local crime gang.
Gameplay[]
Players play as Joe, and are capable of firing his machine gun left, right, up and at 45 degree angles. Enemies will arrive on screen and shoot at Joe, with Joe having to dodge their bullets by moving out the way and jumping over if neccesary.
There are six stages in total, with each new stage being accessed after Joe has shot up enough enemies, and taken out El Doba, the machine gun wielding man in a red suit.
The stages are as follows:
- Stage 1: Harbor
- Stage 2: Down Town
- Stage 3: Saloon
- Stage 4: Graveyard
- Stage 5: Midnight (Night time version of Down Town)
- Stage 6: Fairyland
Shooting a passing pig will cause it to drop a blue pearl. This pearl can be thrown by Joe to explode like a bomb and kill any lesser enemies on screen (although it'll only very briefly stun El Doba), although upon doing so a giant spider will appear and block Joe's shots as it walks across the stage back and forth.
Shooting the enemies in yellow will cause them to turn into child versions of themselves and run towards Joe. If Joe picks them up they'll latch onto him and slow him down, but act as a shield, allowing Joe to tank an additional hit. He can pick up to two children at a time. The children will also remove themselves from Joe after he throws the pig's pearl.
Joe starts with two lives, but will obtain a new life if he scores over 20000 points.
Trivia[]
- Occasionally El Doba will be replaced by a schoolgirl enemy. She will act like him however, and turn into a charred skeleton upon being shot once. Doing this will move the game to the next stage.
- After passing the first 6 rounds successfully, a bullet blocking spider will automatically appear on the looping stages, making the next round harder.
- If Joe dies, he, much like the lesser enemies will be turned into a child and walk off in his oversized clothing.
