Clarissa or Claris is a blonde haired teenage girl with braided hair down to her thighs. She wears a white blouse with a green puffy sleeved blazer over it, a tartan green mini skirt, shin high white socks and green high heeled boot shoes that lace up at the front. Her hair is held back by a metalic alice band shaped like several diamonds in a row and she has matching metalic hair accessories keeping her thick braided hair tied together at the back and on her left side.
She is also nearly always seen near a book, which is both her hobby and weapon of choice.
History[]
Clarissa comes from a noble family of Libromancers, mages who use books as a conduit for magical spells, although she seems at first scared of her power seeing it as a curse in which she could end up hurting innocent people. Gentle and caring by nature, Clarissa left her noble family home in Luxembourg to travel to Japan and join the Imperial Flower division in the hopes of using her skills to protect and save people instead of hurting them.
By the time Seijuro Kamiyama joins the group, Claris has become rather disillusioned and pessimistic due to her, Sakura Amamiya and Hatsuho Shinonome's abysmal performances in the theatre and on the battleground becoming laughing stocks to the people they were sworn to protect as well as the Shanghai Combat Revue who was brought in to defend the city in their stead. Claris often becomes lost in the archives reading books and can become so engrossed she will not notice people even waving their hands in front of her face.
Claris is at first rather dismissive on Seijuro, failing to believe he or anyone can manage to turn the disasterous situation around, although with kind words and a helping hand, Clarissa discovers her true love in the theatre is not performing but rather writing scripts and stories for the girls to perform. She convinces Seijuro to go on a date with her in order to help her understand romance better and write a more compelling love story.
However, whilst out on their date, a small child near the park area they're visiting slips over some railings. Seijuro runs to grab them, and Claris unleashes her Libromancy in order to create an updraft to save Seijuro's life. Having sworn to never use this power again, Claris is filled with self hatred during their next mission together. Seijuro eventually brings Claris around stating that her power, whilst destructive in nature, will not harm innocents, because Claris is good hearted by nature she will be able to overcome her powers and use them to help people.
Later whilst searching for a four leaf clover for Reiji, Seijuro stumbles across a romantic poem in the courtyard. It turns out to be Claris' who is devastated when Seijuro hands it back.
Claris also aids Azami Mochizuki in cheering Seijuro up after Hatsuho chews him out for leaving a depressed Sakura back at her family home to recover rather than solving the issue. Seijuro begins to doubt his abilities as a good captain to the team, but Claris reminds him of how much he helped her with her own trauma.
Whilst Seijuro goes back to help convince Sakura to come back to them, Claris, Azami, Anastasia Palma and Hatsuho fend off an attack from Yasha.
When Anastasia appears to have betrayed the team, Claris and the others go after her and discover she's working with Yasha to obtain Sakura's sword, secretly the imperial key used to seal or unseal Shadow Tokyo. Anastasia reveals she sided with Yasha in order to have her deceased parents brought back to life, but Yasha twists it to 'reunite' Anastasia by attempting to kill her. Seijuro rescues Anastasia, but Yasha manages to damage Claris' and the others mugens with a curse preventing their use.
Later after the strategy meeting, Claris joins Seijuro, Anastasia, Hatsuho and Azami on a raid against Yasha after Reiji manages to fix her mugen. During the battle with Yasha after witnessing Yasha kill Anastasia, Claris dives in the way of a fatal attack aimed at Azami and is killed saving her. Azami attempts to avenge her but also dies in the process. Hatsuho depowers Yasha using her life force to do so, telling Claris, Azami and Anastasia that they were her best friends, and Sakura finishes Yasha off.
Later Claris and the rest of the Flower Division are revived thanks to Sakura Shinguji's cherry blossom petals, and she joins her team in the final battle against Sotetsu Genan, helping activate the seal points and allowing Seijuro to finish him off.
If Claris is chosen as the vice captain by Seijuro, she and Seijuro will go on a date to the hot springs after the credits, accidentally getting into a mixed bath. When they overhear some other people arriving, they quickly hide and wait for the others to leave, although Seijuro gets heat stroke and passes out. He awakens with his head on Claris' lap as she gently fans him to cool him down. The two comment on their date having a mishap, but Claris admits that it fits them perfectly, before the two share a kiss looking over at the setting sun.
Trivia[]
At several points in the story Seijuro can stumble across Claris' writing, usually involving romantic or sexual descriptions of characters clearly based on Claris and Seijuro. In all times Claris will become extremely flustered when handed it back as Seijuro pretends he didn't read it.
Claris's special attack will be blocked off during the mission where she is holding herself back and she'll be limited to a single two hit combo.
During the pep talk with Seijuro after Sakura falls into a slump and Hatsuho gets angry at him, Claris will mimic Azami's ninja hand movements.
For her Christmas date, Claris meets Seijuro at their usual bookshop location, but they then travel to a sea world attraction where Seijuro surfs on the back of a dolphin whilst delivering presents to the audience and Claris holds a Christmas tree.
Standing Claris up on the Christmas date will cause her to talk passive aggressively about how much she enjoyed her date today, complete with dramatic camera movements before telling Seijuro to go to hell.
