Chain Chronicle is a tower defence game for iOS and Android developed and published by Sega.
The game was discontinued in the West and South Asia on February 28th, 2016 but the Japanese version is still being played to this day.
As of October 1st, 2021, the announcement of a spiritual successor to the game, Sin Chronicle was announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2021. The focus of this title is on a non linear story, although there is no word on how it relates to Chain Chronicle's world.
Plot[]
The story takes place in the fantasy land of Yggdra, a world filled to the brim with humans, elves, goblins, skeletons, slimes and other fantasy fare.
The player plays as a hero (default name Yuri), a Captain in Yggdra's Volunteer Army hoping to keep the continent from the danger it's currently facing. Alongside the hero's sidekick Pirika, a rare sprite who guides the hero through the game's mechanics they set out to gather a personal army to fend off the Dark Army.
Gameplay[]
Chain Chronicle uses a unique combination of RPG, Tower defence and card collecting gacha mechanics to create it's core gameplay.
Players can form a party using a certain amount of points that each member is worth. Once the point limit is reached any further characters will be added to the reserves of a 'Sub-party' with them appearing when one of the characters of the field have their HP reduced to 0.
The player's army can be placed on a 3x3 grid and moved around to best combat the hordes walking towards them.
There are five main classes:
- Warriors: The Hero/Yuri is an example of this class. They have good attack power and are able to knock shields of the Knight class out the way with their greater movement.
- Knights: A warrior type focused on defence, often carrying a large shield around with them. As a result they do better against ranged fighters such as mages and archers than the warrior. Kain, the first person to join the player's army is an example of a Knight.
- Magicians: Magic users who have access to ranged elemental attacks. They can hit opponents from afar.
- Clerics: Healers who have no ranged attacking magic, but can heal and support their team mates. They will resort to melee attacking when an opponent is right on top of them however. Phoena, the main heroine and Marina are examples of clerics.
- Archers: Ranged fighters who use a variety of bows(and occasionally guns) to attack from afar. Michidia is an example of an archer.
Depending on where the player places their soldiers will greatly affect the outcome of battle. Occasionally after defeating a monster attack the player will recieve a card, which will allow them to obtain a new soldier into their army.
