The Centurion is the main protagonist of Altered Beast. He's the dead human champion, revived by Zeus to combat the villainous Neff.
Appearance[]
The Centurion starts as a blonde haired regular athletic build man wearing a pink leotard, a yellow belt and brown boots.
After absorbing a spirit ball, the Centurion becomes more muscular, bursting out of the top layer of the leotard.
After absorbing yet another spirit ball, the Centurion becomes even more muscular reaching extreme body building extremes, even breaking out his boots.
Absorbing one more spirit ball will transform into his 'Altered Beast' forms; half man and half beast.
History[]
At some point in the past, the Centurion was a Roman warrior. He eventually died.
When Neff kidnapped Zeus' daughter Athena, Zeus summoned the Centurion back from the dead and bestowed upon him the power of the altered beast giving him supernatural powers.
As the Centurion traversed the land he transformed into many different fearsome beasts, defeating Neff's many own monsterous forms.
Eventually the Centurion meets Neff in the Underworld, transforming into the golden wolfman for the final showdown. After a severe battle, Neff is defeated and the Centurion in his golden wolf form and Athena unite, embracing.

Power Drift[]
In 3DS special edition of Power Drift, the Centurion appears as a playable racer. In this game he transforms into the Werebear form.
Project X Zone 2[]
In Project X Zone 2, the Centurion in his Werewolf form appears as part of Ulala's special attack alongside Alex Kidd and Opa-Opa.
Sega Heroes[]
In Sega Heroes, the variations of Centurions are a playable heroes who was added on different updates. They have the following gameplay characteristics:

Powers and abilities[]
Beast forms[]
- Werewolf: This form is the first form the Centurion takes on. The werewolf can shoot fireballs from his fist, and perform a flaming jump kick.
- Weredragon: The Weredragon can fly. This form allows the Centurion to shoot lightning out of his mouth, or surround his entire body with a lightning barrier.
- Werebear: The Werebear form allows the Centurion to turn enemies to stone with the bear's breath. He can also perform a jumping rolling attack that gives him temporary invincibility.
- Weretiger: The Weretiger can unleash a snaking fireball projectile and perform a jumping kick attack.
- Gold Werewolf: This form is the form the Centurion uses to take on Neff. It gives him the same abilities as his Werewolf form, but the attack power is far more powerful.
Trivia[]
- At the end of the Arcade version of Altered Beast it is revealed the Centurion is an actor, with the credits acting like the game is all a movie. He removes his wolf head like it's a costume and shares a beer with Athena, Zeus and Neff.
- Sega Heroes introduces alternatively Centurions, with the original being able to transform into the Werewolf form.
- Sega Heroes includes Centurion's Werewolf, Weredragon and Werebear forms. The Weretiger and Golden Werewolf forms are absent from the game.
- The Centurion appears on the front cover of Sega 3D Classics Collection in his Werebear form.
