Cendrillion is the central protagonist of the Wonderland Wars series.
Appearance[]
Cendrillion, being based on the titular character of Cinderella includes key elements as glass slippers reimagined as glass boots, and swords that are clock hands. Likewise her outfit is made up of both fanciful princess clothing, and the simple working ribbon of her original form.
The term "Castle Ball" was a keyword that was used when developing Wonderland Wars, and as such Cinderella was chosen as a central figure. Combining the elegance and pure themes of Cinderella with the theme of a warrior's inner strength were considered to go well together when creating her look, and the design as a result was one of the smoothest to complete compared to other designs. The developers noted that Maejima Juki's illustration was exactly how the envisioned the character even in the first rough draft, and were impressed with the sense of dignity that Cendrillion radiated.[1]
History[]
Wonderland Wars[]
Once upon a time, there was a peaceful kingdom ruled by a strict king who lived with his second wife, a queen from a neighbouring country, and the son of his first marriage, the prince. One day the, the king recieved news that his kingdom was being invaded by the homeland of his queen. The king immedietly mobilized the regular army and set out to fight to protect his kingdom.
The prince tried to keep the people safe whilst the king was away, but rumours were spread amongst the civilians that they were doomed to lose the battle and be killed by the invading army soldiers who were said to be violent and beastly. This spread anxiety and fear amongst the people, made worse by their own kingdom's soldiers treating them violently if they protested.
The Queen had become possessed and was betraying the kingdom in order to take it for herself. When the prince realised this, he created a private mercenary unit called "Cinderella" that was not subject to the Queen's orders, and waited for his opportunity to defeat the Queen.
The Cinderella girls followed the prince's orders, no matter how tough the orders were, going to the battlefield day after day with little chance of survival and going to sleep praying the following day would be a day without fighting.
One day, a girl joined the Cinderella girls, her name was Cendrillion. She wielded two swords with ease and honed her skills with graceful movements. Whilst starting off with little magic power and old, decrepit weaponry, Cendrillion worked hard at everything she did, eventually gaining the respect of her Cinderella seniors and the Captain.
One day a white carrier pigeon delivered an order to the Cinderella mercenaries to march out. "Wear your best dress to the castle fair". The message was clear, the prince had finally decided to defeat the queen. The Cinderella girls recieved magical dresses and swords from a wizard under the prince's employment and headed to the royal palace. However, Cendrillion was told to stay behind and was not called to battle due to her lack of magical power.
"Oh, I want to go to the battle and fight too...I want the power to protect everyone" she muttered, and then something miraculous happened. The first captain of the Cinderella Girls, Victorious, recognised her skills and makes a major decision. She crystalizes her own magical powers into the shape of a sword and passes it on to Cendrillion. Upon taking the sword with her captain's magic, Cendrillion's dress turns pure white and she becomes a warrior princess. As the main force of the Cinderella mercenaries, she marches off to the castle to do battle against the forces of darkness.[2]
Cendrillion goes on to put on an outstanding performance at the "Ball Battle" and is recognised by the prince for her efforts. She eventually retires from the Cinderella Mercenaries unit and becomes an independent warrior fighting off the forces of darkness.
League of Wonderland[]
In League of Wonderland, Cendrillion is shown to be the heroine of the Cinderella story. Once her story ends with her "Happily Ever After" she is whisked off the Wonderland League by the Fairy Godmother where she can prove her skill, courage and combat on the battlefield in front of an adoring audience against other story book legends.
