Captain Onishima is a major antagonist of Jet Set Radio series. He's police officer of Rokkaku Police.

Appearance[]

Onishima has a permenant cheshire cat grin on his face, a 5 o' Clock stubble and wears a 70's inspired detective outfit with a beige trenchcoat, a red tie and white shirt, brown trousers, black belt and grey shoes. His pompadour like hair is combed forward and splits into three slicked spikes that stick out in front of his face.

Onishima is rarely seen without his oversized revolver, which he's a little too keen to use against rudies.

History[]

Onishima initially appears in the very first level of Jet Set Radio, where he is called in after the player sprays a certain number of tags, where he'll chase the player and fire his revolver at them.

As the game continues, Onishima becomes even more unhinged, sending in riot police, police dogs, paratroopers, tanks and attack helicopters to try and impede the GG's.

After the first chapter, he and his police officers are replaced by Goji Rokkaku's assassins. DJ Professor K states that the Tokyo-to police force are too scared to tangle with Goji's Golden Rhinos, explaining his removal from the story.

  • The Jet Set Radio manual states that Onishima's hatred of young people, especially unruly young people like the rudies, stems from a traumatic past event.
  • Onishima can be tagged with graffiti on his back to prevent him chasing you briefly.
  • Tagging Onishima five times will also nab players an achievement in the Steam version of the title.
  • Occasionally a glitch can occur which will spawn two Onishimas that will chase the players.
  • Onishima is one of the few characters from the original game who didn't reappear in Jet Set Radio Future, or get a familiar redesign. Instead he is replaced by Hayashi who shares a similar role.
