Brigitte Stark, better known by her nickname Rosie, is a Corporal, a Shocktrooper and a major character in Valkyria Chronicles.
Appearance[]
Rosie is a tall slender woman with freckles, wears her hair up in two side bunches and brown sharper eyes. She wears the Gallian milita uniform, mildly modified for herself such as being one of the few who wears a skirt, and the only character who has her midriff on show.
History[]
Backstory[]
When Rosie was a small child her village was hit by an Imperial Darcsen Hunt. Her family were killed in the crossfire. As a result Rosie ended up coming to resent the Darcsen through misguiding her anger. As a result she blames them rather than the Imperials for the death of her family.
Later, she dropped out of school and became a bartender and songstress, with bargoers travelling from miles around to just listen to her sing. She obtained the nickname of Rosie from her frequent bargoers. She became a member of her own town watch, her experience with which managed to land her the title of Corporal when she enlisted in the Gallian militia at the start of the second Europan war.
Rosie joined Largo Potter in Squad 7 upon joining, and the two became firm friends sharing a slightly cynical outlook, with Rosie enjoying teasing Largo over his obvious crush on Captain Eleanor Varrot.
Valkyria Chronicles[]
Both Rosie and Largo weren't best pleased when Welkin Gunther was placed in charge of the squad, with Rosie viewing Welkin as just a school boy. However, Rosie's real problem came when Isara Gunther joined the squad alongside Welkin and Alicia Melchiott. Rosie's hatred for the Darcsens caused a huge rift in Squad 7, with Largo also refusing to listen to an inexperienced leader like Welkin.
Welkin makes a bet with the two of them, in which he can take back the bridge the Imperial soldiers have taken over, and through his knowledge of nature and Isara's engineering genius, the squad manage to take the bridge back. Rosie and Largo begrudgingly accept Welkin as their squad leader, although Rosie still openly hates Isara.
Through many missions together, Rosie is forced to work alongside Isara, and she begins, slowly, to begrudginly accept Isara as part of her new family. She struggles to forgive the Darcsen for her parents death, but through seeing the camps the Darcsen are placed in and the death of several innocent Darcsen children who are burned in the Imperial camp she begins to realise her hatred is misplaced when aimed at the Darcsen race.
Just before the raid on Malberry Shore, Isara gives both Rosie and Largo a doll charm said to bring good luck. Isara states she wishes to be friends with both of them, and whilst Largo embarrasingly accepts the charm, Rosie states she cannot accept it. Largo chews her out, and Rosie explains she doesn't think she can change her opinion overnight.
Upon the successful completion of the mission, with Isara's smoke shells being instrumental in her safety, Rosie sheepishly reveals she did bring the charm, and reconciles with Isara. Isara reveals that she'd love to one day hear Rosie sing, as she'd heard Rosie has a wonderful singing voice. Rosie, taken aback, promises her that once the war is over she will sing for her, holding her hand out to seal the promise.
Isara is then shot by an Imperial sniper right in front of Rosie. Isara falls to the floor, bleeding to death as Rosie apologises to her, telling her she has to live. Isara dies smiling in Welkin's arms.
At Isara's funeral, Rosie apologises some more and fulfills her promise to Isara by singing to her after saluting her with the rest of the Squad 7. Isara's death greatly affects Rosie, with Rosie, once the most vocal hater of Darcsen, requests she and Squad 7 be put forth to stop an Imperial Darcsen Hunt. Rosie angrilly guns down the Imperials who have targetted a local Darcsen village hoping to murder all of the villagers.
Trivia[]
- Despite her initial racism, Rosie lacks the Darcsen Hater potential that many other members of Squad 7 have such as Theold Bohr, Cezary Regard or Rosina Selden.
- Rosie actually has a potential called Song of Peace, which does the following: "Seeing Darcsens nearby brings the song she never got to share with Isara to her lips, filling her with strength".
- Rosie has a gashapon figure alongside Alicia Melchiott, Isara Gunther and Eleanor Varrot.
- Rosie appears as an extra playable character in Valkyria Chronicles 2 and Valkyria Chronicles 3.
- After the war, Rosie returns to singing in a professional context. Vario Kraatz, a Lancer in Valkyria Chronicles 2 requests she take him under her wing as an apprentice, but is turned down by her.
