Billy Hatcher is the main protagonist from Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg.

Appearance[]

Billy Hatcher is a human who has a white helmet with red combs protruding from it, and blue ovals at the sides, azure blue fingerless gloves, white sleeveless shirt, red neckerchief, blue trousers, blue and brown shoes with two gold rectangles on each side.

History[]

One day, 'Billy Hatcher woke up to the sound of his alarm clock going off. In a panic, he raced out the door and into the woods where he was meant to meet up with his friends Rolly Roll, Chick Poacher and Bantam Scrambled who had all been waiting for Billy to arrive for some time to start bird watching. His friends begin to walk towards him threateningly as Billy frantically apologises, when an injured Morning Land Chick falls out the bushes. A crow attempts to attack it, but Billy fends it off with a tree branch. After the crow flies away, the chick begins to glow and Billy and his friends are transported to Morning Land.

Billy is spoken to by a voice in the sky revealing itself to be the Chicken God, Menie-Funie, revealing that the Chicken Elders have all been kidnapped by crows and trapped in golden eggs, preventing them from being able to bring daylight back to the land. Billy is tasked with saving the six Chicken Elders in order to bring daylight back to Morning Land.

Billy sets out, gaining the Legendary Chicken Suit to put a stop to the crows, rescue the elders and bring morning back to the land.

Along the way Billy discovers that his friends had also been chosen as heroes and given their own Legendary Chicken Suits, but had been less successful in defeating the bosses of each of their assigned worlds. Billy sets out to free each of them and prevent them from being blown up by a bomb. Once Rolly, Chick and Bantam are saved they aid Billy in putting a stop to the crows.

Eventually Billy faces off against the ruler of the crows, Dark Raven, and in one last battle prevents him from plunging the world into infinite darkness. Once Morning Land is saved he, Rolly, Chick and Bantam are returned to the human world, unsure if what happened was a dream or not.

Abilities[]

  • Roll - Lets the player move the egg
  • Bounce - Lets the player bounce the egg
  • Rooster Call - Lets the player hatch an egg
  • Tame - Lets the player use Helper Animals to attack.
  • Courage/Super Billy - More power only allowed at last boss

Trivia[]

  • Billy Hatcher appears in a minigame in the Eyetoy game Sega Superstars for PlayStation 2.
  • He makes a guest appearance in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity as an unlockable power type character.
  • He is a playable character in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, where one of his stages is Rampart Road, which is Blizzard Castle. His All-Star is yelling "Cock-a-doodle-doo!", then summoning a large egg in which he runs on like a circus ball, making it roll forward and running over the other competitors.
  • Despite being a racer in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, Billy Hatcher does not return in the sequel Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
  • Strangely his friends, Rolly Roll, Chick Poacher and Bantam Scrambled all still make cameos in the Billy Hatcher track, implying Billy Hatcher was perhaps planned for the game as a racer but scrapped late in development.
  • Billy and his friends appear to be bird watchers in the opening cutscene of Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. Bizarrely they have a fondness for watching chickens.
  • Billy and his friends are said to be based off the four main heroes from Sonic the Hedgehog series, with even their poses in official art mimicking them. Billy is Sonic's Morning Land equivalent.
  • Billy, Rolly, Chick and Bantam all appear in the Sega and Capcom crossover comic World's Unite. They are recruited to the cause by Megaman and Amy Rose.
