Amplitude Studios was a subsidary of Sega between 2016 and 2024.
History[]
Amplitude Studios was founded in 2011 by former Ubisoft employees Romain de Waubert de Genlis and Mathieu Girard.
It was aquired by Sega Sammy Holdings in 2016, becoming part of Sega of Europe as part of a need for more financial stability. During their time as a subsidary, Amplitude created five titles, four of which were in their Endless series IP, alongside new IP Humankind.
Splitting from Sega[]
As of November 8, 2024, Amplitude Studios has been sold by Sega back to it's original owners. Amplitude Studios made the following statement:
"We have big news to share with you today: Amplitude is going indie again!
Our journey with SEGA over the last 8 years has been amazing, and we have learned so much working with them, but now we are returning to our roots as an independent studio. With ownership of the studio returning to some of our original founders and members of the team, the creative vision of our games and the Endless universe rests in the hands of those who know them best. While we are going our separate ways now, we part on good terms and wish our friends at SEGA the best for all their future projects."
The studio have declared they will be returning to their roots as a AA developer, announcing they have two upcoming titles to announce on Amplitude day, an annual event that takes place on January 18th.
