Alicia Melchiott is a character of Valkyria Chronicles series.

Appearance[]

History[]

Past[]

Alicia grew up in an orphanage in her hometown of Bruhl. Not much is known about her parents or the details of her birth, but as she grew Alicia tended to help care for the younger orphans.

One day a traveling baker came to the orphanage, and baked a delicious batch of fresh bread as a treat for the orphan children. Alicia was so touched by this that she immediately knew she wanted to someday become a baker herself.

When she came of age, she left the orphanage and got a live-in job at the local bakery studying under a master baker. After a year of training, Alicia began looking into a government scheme that would grant her a license and to open her own bakery.

Unfortunately those plans came to a hold when the Second Europan War broke out and the bakery she worked at shut up shop indefinitely. Refusing to give up, Alicia joined the Town Guard to protect her hometown and was quickly promoted to Town Watchman squad leader.

Valkyria Chronicles[]

In Valkyria Chronicles, on the day the Imperial army invaded Bruhl, Alicia was doing her watchman rounds when she caught sight of someone she'd never seen before scribbling furiously in a notebook. Suspecting the individual of being an Imperial spy, Alicia arrested the man at gun point, and took him in for questioning. Welkin Gunther, the man she arrested, revealed himself to be a former resident of Bruhl and he was only here to help his adoptive sister, Isara Gunther, evacuate the town.

After Isara appears and reveals the story to be true, the Imperial Army attack leaving Alicia to fight the soldiers off in order to allow the townsfolk time to escape. Welkin joins Alicia as back up, and the two manage to hold off the invading scout troop before a tank appears. With no way to fight a tank effectively, Alicia tells Welkin to flee and she'll buy him some time to escape. Just when all hope seems lost for Alicia making it out of this skirmish alive, Welkin and Isara return...in The Edelweiss, a tank belonging created by Isara's biological father, and the one Welkin's father used to become a war hero. They pick Alicia up, and all three, plus Martha the Gunther's nanny, escape together. Alicia hopes for a better future, as they escape to the Gallian capital city of Randgriz.

Here Alicia, alongside Welkin and Isara sign up to the militia, and are placed in Squad 7 together by Captain Varrot. Alicia is made the Sergeant of Squad 7 working under Welkin's command. At first the newcomers have problems with veterans Largo Potter and Brigitte "Rosie" Stark who have issues with Welkin and Isara respectively, but through a successful few missions manage to get the two of their side by proving Welkin's knowledge of nature can be helpful and Alicia managing to keep the group together, although Rosie still dislikes Isara.

During a mission in the Barious Desert, Alicia, Welkin and Welkin's friend and Squad 1's leader, Faldio, explore the ancient ruins of an ancient race known as the Valkyrur. Here, Alicia accidentally opens a hidden doorway which leads deeper into the ruins.

As the three explore, they come across the enemy commander, Prince Maximillion and his bodyguard/general, Selvaria Bles. Sensing this as a good chance to bring the war to an end, Alicia reaches for her gun and demands Maximillion surrender to which Selveria instantly threatens them, pointing her lance at the girl. Prince Maximillion responds by stating he doesn't want to sully this sacred ruins but if they wish to battle to meet him on the surface. Alicia excitedly convinces Welkin and Faldio to follow so they can take out the enemy commander.

It's here on the battlefield that Alicia gets her first glimpse of Selvaria's Valkyrur power, as Selvaria devastates the battlefield, immune to tank shells and only through clever tactics by Squad 7 do they force her to leave the battlefield in order to prioritise Maximillion's safety first and foremost.

Later during a return to the front lines, Alicia recieves a flesh wound. Faldio attempts to check in on her late at night and see's her unconcious body heal itself with a blame flame. Faldio begins to suspect between this and her ability to open the ruins, that Alicia is capable of also harnessing the power of the Valkyrur and considers his options.

Alicia and Welkin are seperated from the rest of the rest of Squad 7 by a shelling, and Alicia's ankle is twisted as a result. With Welkin's support the two manage to make their way through the undergrowth avoiding enemies and take shelter at an abandoned cabin. Not long after a mortally wounded Imperial Soldier, Fritz, bursts into the house. Terrified of dying, the soldier is comforted by Alicia as he passes away. Alicia and Welkin make sure he recieves a proper burial and are found in the morning by his commanding officer. After realising the compassion Alicia and Welkin gave to his soldier in his dying moments, he agrees to let them go and rejoin their squad. Alicia and Welkin return to Squad 7 who are in the middle of combat against Imperials troops and manage to fight their way to safety.

After rescuing Princess Cordelia and freeing the Darcsens in Fouzen, Squad 7 are given the task to retake a military base on Marberry Shore. This mission, whilst successful leads to Isara's death. In memory of Isara, Alicia promises Welkin after the war they will repair Bruhl in Isara's memory and all those who have lost their lives to the war. In her memory, Squad 7 retakes Bruhl from Imperial Forces and the Gallian Military begins to push the Imperial Army back.

During a celebration, Alicia is shot and wounded. Welkin is shocked to discover from Fina that the bullet was from a Gallian soldier's sniper rifle. Whilst resting Alicia is handed a Valkyrur lance and shield in her bed by a mysterious individual which awakens her as a Valkyria. She stumbles onto the battlefield, a placid and distant look in her eyes, her hair now silver and eyes now red, as Selvaria Bles recognises her as a fellow Valkyria. Selvaria engages Alicia in combat but Alicia easily and effortlessly overwhelms the seasoned Valkyria, turning the tide of battle in a heartbeat. The power eventually overwhelms Alicia and she falls unconcious. Welkin in this time discovers Faldio was the one behind Alicia's shooting and has him thrown in jail.

When she awakens, Alicia is deeply troubled by the reaction she has from the Gallian troops. They're viewing her as a goddess, their saviour and the ultimate weapon in the war, all of which puts immense pressure on her. Welkin assures her that she is still the same Alicia as ever, which relieves her a little, although she thanks him with a strained smile.

Later Selvaria sacrifices herself by unleashing the Valkyria Flame, burning through her life force and killing most of Gallia's army in doing so. Alicia, Welkin and the rest of Squad 7 witness the explosion from a distance. This has an effect on Alicia and she prepares herself to face a similar fate to help end the war, attempting to perform a similar sacrifice against Maximillian's ultimate tank, the Marmota. Welkin talks her out of it with a heartfelt declaration of love, persuading Alicia that she is still just the bakery girl who took command of the Town Watch and not a human weapon.

After cornering Maximillian on the Marmota, who had transformed himself into an artificial Valkyria using Ragnite, Alicia and the rest of the squad manage to destroy the generators powering the tech. Faldio appears and to make up for his past actions he drags the malfunctioning Maximillian into the generators along with himself to end the war. This causes an explosion that traps Alicia and Welkin away from the rest of the squad. Just as all hope seems lost, Leon Schmidt arrives, having finished Isara's plane prototype and rescues them from the burning tank in the nick of time.

After the war, Alicia and Welkin get married. Alicia opens up her own bakery like she always dreamed of, and the two have their first child together; Isara Gunther, named after her aunt.

Valkyria Chronicles 4[]

In Valkyria Chronicles 4, with the Federation hoping to form an alliance with Gallia after the second Europan War, Claude Wallace and the rest of Squad E are informed they are to try and improve Gallian morale by doing a squad exercise with the local militia, namely Squad 7. Alicia gets on quickly with Riley Miller and Kai Schulen due to their similar temperments and Kai is instantly a fan of Alicia thanks to her incredible bakery skills. Spotting similarities between their squads, Alicia and Riley contemplate perhaps they aren't all that different.

Valkyria Chronicles II[]

In Valkyria Chronicles II two years after the events of the Gallian War, Alicia is married to Welkin, has her own bakery business and is in the early stages of her pregnancy with Isara. She meets Avan Hardins who has a deep wound, and comments that her ability to heal as a Valkyria would mean a wound like this wouldn't be a big deal for long on her. Avan is amazed and wishes he had that power, but Alicia jokes that he'd likely just find more creative ways to harm himself if he did.

She and Welkin occasionally show up in the school shop to teach new orders to Avan.
