After Burner is a series of flight combat rail shooter simulation games in which the player takes control of an American F-14 Tomcat Jet Fighter and must destroy incoming enemies to proceed. Like Hang-On, Space Harrier and Out Run the initial game utilised sprite scaler technology to give an impressive impression of speed and distance. It's lock on system went on to inspire Panzer Dragoon's gameplay.
