- Relic Entertainment has 121 employees made redundant to focus on 'core franchises'.
- Yuji Naka (Sonic the Hedgehog, NiGHTS, Billy Hatcher, etc) is found guilty of insider trading and is sentenced to two years and six months in prison on June 1. This sentence is suspended for four years on July 7, and Yuji Naka is fined 2 million yen and is forced to forfeit 171 million yen(roughly $1.2 million).
- Sega acquires Rovio Entertainment for US$775M on August 18, obtaining the Angry Birds franchise.
- Hyenas is cancelled on September 28 after it's beta release. It was Sega's highest budget game ever, estimated to cost $100M to make.
- Sega begins to restructure their Sega of Europe branch as a result of Hyenas' cancellation and overall cost
- Sega announces the Power Surge project at the Game Awards 2023 on December 7. The project aims to revive Sega IP series that have been ignored and abandoned, starting with Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Shinobi and Crazy Taxi, with more allegedly to come.
